Non-Surgical Gum Therapy

Gum disease can affect anyone — even patients who take good care of their teeth. It is a common condition that can cause discomfort, bleeding, and, if left untreated, permanent damage to the gums and supporting bone.
At The Stockyards Dental, we focus on early detection and conservative, non-surgical treatments to help manage gum disease and support long-term oral health.
Stages of Gum Disease
- Gingivitis: An early stage caused by plaque buildup along the gumline. Symptoms may include redness and bleeding during brushing or flossing. When treated early, gingivitis is reversible and does not cause permanent damage.
- Periodontitis: At this stage, the supporting bone and tissues begin to break down. Gums may form pockets that trap bacteria. While some damage can be irreversible, proper treatment and home care can help prevent progression.
- Advanced Periodontitis: Severe damage to bone and tissue may lead to loose teeth, bleeding, and persistent bad breath. More advanced care may be required to stabilize oral health.

Non-Surgical Treatment Options
Treatment is personalized based on the severity of the condition and may include:
- Localized medication applied directly below the gum line
- Scaling and root planing to remove bacteria and smooth infected root surfaces
- Curettage, when needed, to remove infected gum tissue and promote healing
Our goal is always to control infection, reduce inflammation, and help preserve your natural teeth whenever possible.
If you’ve noticed bleeding gums, discomfort, or changes in your gum health, early care can make a significant difference.
